Marvel’s (Literal) Color Problem

Color grading is one of many aspects of modern cinema that goes unnoticed by the average movie-goer. For those who do notice the vibrancy, or lack thereof, of colors in a particular movie, it typically gets chalked up as “it was filmed well” in the conversation in the ride home from the theater. Which is fine. Most of us don’t need – or particularly want – Dad to be able to break down the technical nuances of digital cinema behind the wheel of his Camry or over artichoke dip at Chili’s.

But as Patrick Willem points out, color grading can make a dramatic difference in the way a scene appears on screen; and isn’t that why we go to the theater or buy curved TVs? We want our movies to look awesome.
